Sudden Death | Thunder Bay 2019

KENORA, ONTARIO  ~~~~~  May 4, 2022 (LSNews)  Four individuals are facing several drug charges, following a traffic stop on Lakeview Drive and an executed search warrant that resulted in a significant drug seizure at a Second Street South residence in Kenora on Wednesday May 4, 2022.

Hardworking Kenora OPP Officers seized a large quantity of suspected crystal methamphetamine and opioids, which were seized, along with other unknown substances. Officers also seized numerous cell phones, drug paraphernalia, items consistent with drug trafficking, and Canadian currency.

A 53 year old CAREY SAS, a 64 year old GLENDON LORANGER and 23 year old SALLY KOKOKOPENACE of Kenora, were arrested and criminally charged under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA) and Criminal Code (CC) with:

  • -Possession of a schedule one substance for the purpose of trafficking - methamphetamine, contrary to sec. 5(2), CDSA
  • -Possession of property obtained by crime - under $5,000, contrary to sec. 354(1)(a), CC

A 33 year old SARA DUCK of Nestor Falls was charged with:

  • -Possession of a schedule one substance for the purpose of trafficking - other drugs, contrary to sec. 5(2), CDSA


have all been released from custody and are scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Kenora on June 2, 2022. SAS was remanded in custody until a scheduled bail hearing on May 4, 2022.

The Kenora Community Street Crime Unit was assisted by members of the Kenora Detachment, OPP Organized Crime Enforcement Bureau, and the Anti-Human Trafficking Unit.

It’s made Thunder Bay the highest per capita opioid death rate in Ontario.

The 44 deaths were a 40 per cent increase from 2017, a year in which Thunder Bay also held the highest provincial rate.

Between July 2017 and June 2018, nearly 3,900 naloxone kits were handed out by the Thunder Bay District Health Unit and local pharmacies,
