FORT FRANCES OPP MAKE ARREST IN GUN & DRUG BUST

FORT FRANCES, ONTARIO  ~~~~~   September 12, 2022 (LSNews)  At approximately 6:50 p.m. on September 5, 2022, CDT hardworking members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Rainy River District Division received information that an individual had pointed a firearm at another individual and was in unlawful possession of a firearm.

On September 6, 2022, officers with the support of the Rainy River District Detachment Crime Unit, the OPP Community Street Crime Unit and the OPP Emergency Response Team, along with the Treaty Three Police Service, executed a search warrant at an apartment building in Fort Frances.

OPP Officers located and seized five firearms, four of which were loaded, ammunition and one prohibited weapon (Taser).

About 400 grams of suspected fentanyl, about 200 grams of suspected cocaine, about 100 suspected Percocet pills and about 30 suspected hydromorphone pills were also seized.

A white male suspect with a history of drugs & crime was arrested.

A 35 year old JASON THOMSON of Fort Frances, was arrested and criminally charged with:

  • -Unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm X 4
  • -aiming a firearm
  • -Possession of firearms or ammunition contrary to the prohibition order X 3
  • -Possession of property proceeds obtained from crime over $5000
  • -Possession of weapons for dangerous purposes X 4
  • -Careless storage of firearms, weapons, prohibited devices or ammunition X 6
  • -Possession of a loaded prohibited or restricted firearm X 2
  • Unlawful possession of firearms X 2
  • Possession of opioid for purpose of trafficking X 3
  • -Possession of cocaine, as opposed
  • -Possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking

THOMSON has been remanded in custody at the Fort Frances Jail & has a court appearance today, Monday September 12, 2022.

It’s made Thunder Bay the highest per capita opioid death rate in Ontario.

The 44 deaths were a 40 per cent increase from 2017, a year in which Thunder Bay also held the highest provincial rate.

Between July 2017 and June 2018, nearly 3,900 naloxone kits were handed out by the Thunder Bay District Health Unit and local pharmacies,
