Thunder Bay Museum hosting a traveling exhibit on the Holocaust

And in 1948, I came to Canada”: The Holocaust in Six Dates

THUNDER BAY, ONTARIO  ~~~~  March 1, 2022 (LSNews) The Thunder Bay Museum would like to announce that we are hosting a traveling exhibit from the Montreal Holocaust Museum titled “And in 1948, I came to Canada”: The Holocaust in Six Dates.  The exhibit raises awareness about the genocide of the Jews by presenting its history and reflecting on the impacts of racism and discrimination in our society.  

.  It commemorates the victims of the Holocaust and honours the survivors who made Canada their new home.  The exhibit will be available to the public on the Museum’s second floor from April 6, 2022 until June 26, 2022. 

The Museum, in partnership with the Shaarey Shomayim Congregation of Thunder Bay has, developed a wide range of complimentary programming for patrons to partake in while the exhibit is in Thunder Bay.  The list of special events is below and preregistration and/or tickets for events can be found here: https://thunderbaymuseum1.wildapricot.org/Member-Events

  • 11 April – Exhibit Opening Reception - “And in 1948, I came to Canada”: The Holocaust in Six Dates
  • 27 April – Virtual Lecture - Dr. Valerie Hébert - 'Nothing is to be gained by creating an internal problem in an effort to meet an International one': Canada's Response to the Jewish Refugee Crisis
  • 10-12 May – Concert Series – A Song Rings Out: Lost Composers of the Holocaust
    • Chamber music concerts featuring works by Jewish composers impacted by the Holocaust.  These concerts are being arranged by Michelle Zapf-Belanger, Section Violinist with the Thunder Bay Symphony Orchestra. 
  • 19 May – Lecture - Mark Scharf - Child of Holocaust Survivors

There will also be programming available for the schools to partake in through field trips, virtual programs, and lesson plans.

The exhibition looks at the history of the Holocaust and the Second World War through six key dates, as well as Canada’s reaction to these events.

  • 1933 Nazi rise to power and anti-Jewish laws
  • 1939 Beginning of the war and creation of ghettos
  • 1941 Invasion of the USSR and mass murders by mobile killing units
  • 1942 Deportation to the death camps
  • 1943 Resistance

“MISSING” RAPIST CAPTURED BY THUNDER BAY POLICE

THUNDER BAY, ONTARIO  ~~~~  January 19, 2023  (LNews)  Hardworking Thunder Bay Police Officers have arrested a local white male criminal wanted on bench warrants for failing to attend court and a TBPS warrant for breach of probation. 

A 44 year old MICHAEL PETEL (January 7,1979) has been criminally charged with failing to attend court & breach of probation. 

PETEL was previously listed as “MISSING” by TBPS Media Relations Coordinator Scott Paradis on October 18,2022.  But Paradis failed to tell the public about PETEL’S criminal history or the fact that he was wanted.

LONGLAC DRUG DEALER ARRESTED BY OPP

LONGLAC, ONTARIO ~~~~~  January 19, 2023  (LSNews)   Hardworking Greenstone OPP Officers executed a search warrant at a residence in Longlac yesterday, Wednesday January 18, 2023.  

Officers executed the warrant at 137 Centennial Drive where the drug dealer lives in his elderly parents’ basement. 

A quantity of methamphetamine, cocaine & cash was seized by the OPP

A white male suspect with a criminal history of drug dealing was arrested.

police intercepted an Ontario Northland bus north of Sault Ste. Marie Wednesday morning.

THUNDER BAY, ONTARIO ~~~~~  January 19, 2023  (LSNews)  Three black males from Toronto have been criminally charged for the Ambrose Street shooting of Kristopher Campbell & Doris Lynn Lawson.

The incident happened in the 200 block of Ambrose Street just before 10:30pm on Tuesday January 17,2023.

Officers responding to a 911 call initially found Doris Lynn Lawson with serious gunshot injuries.

The white male suspect on $20 000 no deposit bail was arrested yesterday, Tuesday January 17,2023 by Montreal Police at the request of Thunder Bay Police.

NIPIGON, ONTARIO ~~~~~  January 18, 2023  (LSNews)  Hardworking Nipigon OPP Officers have arrested a local womanbeater for violating his bail conditions. 

It’s alleged the male suspect was contacting the victim of his assault between July 6 & July 8,2022

The man was out on bail for assaulting and choking a woman at the Prince Arthur Hotel in Thunder Bay on December 4,2021.  It’s alleged the incident was witnessed by a security officer at the hotel.

MARATHON, ONTARIO ~~~~  January 18, 2023  (LSNews)  Hardworking Marathon OPP Officers conducted a drug and gun bust yesterday, Tuesday January 17,2023.

OPP Officers seized a .22 caliber firearm, bearspray, cocaine, methamphetamine, oxycodone, hydromorphone, psilocybin and over $5000 in cash.

The white male suspect was under a 2008 court order not to possess weapons.

A white male and female were arrested by OPP.

THUNDER BAY, ONTARIO ~~~~~  January 17, 2023  (LSNews)  Hardworking Thunder Bay Police Officers conducted an arrest on two Toronto area drug dealers early this morning, Tuesday January 17,2023

A white female & black male were arrested with a quantity of cocaine & cash.  The black male also possessed a fraudulent identification in the name of Maxwell Madonis. 

As a result of that arrest, Durham Regional Police in Whitby also arrested a black female with a handgun, cocaine & cash.

ANDRAS COURT FENTANYL DEALER RELEASED ON $1000 NO DEPOSIT BAIL

THUNDER BAY, ONTARIO  ~~~~~  January 17, 2023  (LSNews)  A 23 year old NOUH SALIM SOUARE (November 5,1999) was ordered released on $1000 no deposit bail by Justice of the Peace Jerry Woods today, Tuesday January 17,2023.

SOUARE was arrested by Thunder Bay Police on a home takeover investigation on December 1,2022.

TBPS Officers located SOUARE in Apartment 207 at 120 Cumberland Street South and found 26 grams of fentanyl on him, along with cash.
