THUNDER BAY, ONTARIO  ~~~~~  November 17, 2022 (LSNews)   Shane Muir has been appointed Chief of Superior North Emergency Medical Services for the City and District of Thunder Bay, effective December 19, 2022.

Commander Muir started his career as a paramedic with Superior North EMS in 2007. He was appointed Commander of EMS Operations (Acting) in May 2022. From 2020-2022 he was the Superintendent of Community Paramedicine and led the Superior North EMS COVID-19 Task Force.

“Shane Muir brings exemplary leadership and professional experience to the important role of overseeing our highly trained, professional emergency medical service,” said Karen Lewis, General Manager – Development & Emergency Services.

“I am committed to providing the best possible public service to the citizens of Thunder Bay, District communities and First Nations while supporting the paramedics of Superior North EMS,” said Commander Muir.

For his significant contributions during the COVID-19 pandemic, Commander Muir recently received the 2020 Richard J. Armstrong Leadership Award for his outstanding leadership. The annual award recognizes an individual for both outstanding leadership and significant contributions to paramedicine in Ontario.

In addition to his experience as a front-line paramedic and as part of the EMS leadership team, he also has over a decade of leadership experience with the Canadian Forces.

Commander Muir was the successful candidate following an open competition.
