CURRENT RIVER DRUG DEALER SENTENCED TO TIME SERVED

THUNDER BAY, ONTARIO  ~~~~~  January 23, 2023  (LSNews)  A 62 year old CLIFFTON GARY GRATZKI (April 28,1960) appeared in person today, Monday January 23,2023 before Justice Lisa Cameron to plead guilty to possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking as part of a plea deal. 

Hardworking TBPS Officers executed a search warrant at GRATZKI’S home in the 300 block of Merrill Street in Current River on November 9,2022. 

GRATZKI & his son, David were arrested, along with a 31 year old black male STEVEN ROJAS of Etobicoke, Ontario.  

They had been in possession of cocaine and allowing ROJAS to deal cocaine. 

JOINT SUBMISSION 

CLIFFTON GRATZKI is a 62 year old cocaine addict like his son DAVID. He was born in Kirkland Lake, Ontario and has a Grade 13 education. 

GRATZKI was previously employed at a local paper mill. 

GRATZKI was briefly released on bail, but his surety revoked. 

GRATZKI was previously convicted over 20 years ago of possession of narcotics for purpose of trafficking. 

Federal Crown Attorney Ron Poirier & Defence Attorney Amanda Gallo have a joint submission for Her Worship to consider. 

GRATZKI has spent a total of 76 real days in custody, that will be enhanced to 114 days. 

The joint submission is for time served plus 12 months probation.  

GRATZKI is given the opportunity to address the court and he states “I made an egregious error that I don’t want to repeat again. I just want to move on with my life”

Justice Cameron accepts the joint submission and sentences GRATZKI to time served of 114 days plus 12 months probation. 

A 10 year weapon prohibition and DNA order are also imposed. 

GRATZKI has outstanding charges from an incident in May 2022 when he allegedly cashed a $955 forged check at Cash For You at 277 Red River Road. He was criminally charged with:

  • -utter forged document 
  • -fraud under $5000

GRATZKI was released on $300 no deposit bail with conditions not to contact victim, reside at his home on Merrill Street and not attend Cash For You. 

GRATZKI is also ordered not to contact STEVEN ROJAS 

GRATZKI has another court appearance on February 20,2023.

    THUNDER BAY, ONTARIO ~~~~  December 26, 2022 (LSNews)   On December 14, 2022,  Monte McNaughton, Minister of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development. “That’s why our government is the first in North America to require naloxone kits be accessible in at-risk workplaces by June 1, 2023, to raise awareness for those struggling with addiction, reduce stigma and save lives.”

    In 2021, 2,819 people died from opioid-related causes in Ontario – the highest number on record and up from 366 in 2003. Naloxone is a life-saving medication that can temporarily reverse an opioid overdose, restore breathing within two to five minutes, and allow time for medical help to arrive.
