Agawa Canyon Tour Train dates for 2023 season

10-hour Agawa Canyon Tour Train

SAULT STE MARIE, ONTARIO  ~~~~~~~ January 17, 2023  (LSNews) Tourism Sault Ste. Marie and the Agawa Canyon Tour Train are excited to announce the return of the train for the 2023 season. This season the train will operate until October 15, a week longer than the traditional final date of the tour train.

“The 2022 season was a success,” said Wes Logan, Director of Operations at the Agawa Canyon Railroad, which owns the tour train. “That was our first year operating this service and we were delighted with the positive feedback we received from our customers and team members about the experience. In the off-season our team is focused on maintaining the track and canyon park, updating seating in select coaches, and improving sightlines and window replacement. This is all being done to ensure the iconic train continues to provide a world class experience for visitors.”

The success of the 2022 season saw a welcome return to full service since 2019 due to the pandemic. The 2023 season plans to be bigger and better, showcasing the scenic journey through Algoma and the fall colours that are on display in the canyon.

“We were thrilled to see a 4% increase in train bookings in 2022 versus the same date range in 2019, despite the challenges of border restrictions for American visitors. As we continue to move past pandemic restrictions, we anticipate that the 2023 tour train season will be a milestone year for the train and the City of Sault Ste. Marie,” says Travis Anderson, Director of Tourism and Community Development.

ONE-DAY SCENIC RAIL ADVENTURE
FROMCA$70 - CA$155

Join us on one of the most popular train tours in North America! Climb aboard the 10-hour Agawa Canyon Tour Train for a Northern Ontario travel experience that will leave you breathless.

As the Agawa train winds its way through this one-of-a-kind terrain, a GPS triggered commentary weaves the story of the region. You’ll learn about upcoming points of interest as well as some of the rich history of the Ojibway, fur traders, explorers and entrepreneurs that opened up this vast wilderness. And to enhance the scenery outside your window, locomotive-mounted cameras provide an engineer’s ‘eye-view’ via flat screen monitors installed throughout the coaches. Just when you thought you’d experienced it all, the train starts its descent into the canyon at mile 102. As the rail line hugs the top of the canyon wall, you’ll descend 500 feet over the next 10 miles to the floor of the Agawa Canyon. This stunning area was created more than 1.2 billion years ago by faulting and was widened and reshaped by the last ice age that retreated 10,000 years ago.

Bookings for the 2023 season are now open and can be made at agawatrain.com. For tourism related information visit the website at saulttourism.com.
