One Small Step Outcomes
WTIP North Shore Community Radio and StoryCorps sharing the stories
COOK COUNTY, MINNESOTA ~~~~~ December 3, 2022 (LSNews) In May of 2022 WTIP North Shore Community Radio partnered with StoryCorps, the national nonprofit dedicated to recording, preserving, and sharing the stories of Americans of all backgrounds and beliefs, as part of StoryCorps’ One Small Step Radio Station Hubs project. WTIP is one of six public radio stations across the country selected to collaborate on the One Small Step initiative, which facilitates conversation and connection between people of opposing viewpoints. One Small Step Communities is made possible with support from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB).
Staff Project Coordinator Staci Drouillard says, “When work started on the initiative, WTIP set a goal to reach 100 participants. As of today, we have had 98 community members sign up for a conversation and we’re on pace to complete our overall goal of 25 recorded interviews. It’s been a very enriching experience, and we’re excited to share some of our initial project outcomes with our North Shore community.”
A live, on-air listening event is scheduled for Thursday, December 15 from noon to 1 p.m. The special broadcast will include clips from selected One Small Step conversations, provide an opportunity for listeners to ask questions about the project and learn more from Lead Project Producer Barbara Jean Meyers and a panel of One Small Step participants. The program can be heard on the air at 90.7 FM North Shore | 89.1 FM Gunflint Trail | 90.1 FM Grand Portage. You can also join the event virtually, through Zoom: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/85252225174 For details about the WTIP One Small Step Initiative, visit: wtip.org/onesmallstep
