Twin of Chippewa Park Carousel Horse

Featured on Canada Post Stamp

THUNDER  BAY, ONTARIO ~~~~~  August 22, 222022 (LSNews)  On July 21, Canada Post released an enchanting set of stamps to celebrate the wonder and playfulness of vintage carousels in Canada.

One of those stamps features the Burnaby Carousel which is the twin sister of our very own C.W. Parker Carousel located at Chippewa Park.  “I was thrilled to see that one of two horses we adopted for our grandchildren was identical to the one featured on a stamp!” exclaimed long-time carousel supporter, Karen Fukushima.”

Speaking of the 5 fully restored carousels, Canada Post stated, “The vibrant stamps spotlight five historic carousels located across the country. The featured carousels are each known for their elaborately carved and beautifully painted animals. They also showcase the craftsmanship and mechanical ingenuity that were impressive for their era.”

“We are so pleased Canada Post has highlighted the significance and beauty of carousels in Canada. The timing couldn’t be better”, said, Donna Gilhooly, Co-Chair of the Carousel Restoration Committee. “The community can visit Chippewa Park which is a featured site for this year’s Doors Open celebration. The community will be able to see first-hand, horse 11A, found on the Canada Post Stamp. She is named Georgia’s Rosie in honour of Karen & Ed Fukushima’s granddaughter.”

“Come to Chippewa Park to celebrate Doors Open on Saturday, September 10th from 10am to 4pm. Admission is free. The community can visit the Pavilion and Carousel both valued and much-loved heritage structures in the community” she concluded.

The stamps cost $9.20 for a booklet of 10 and are available from Canada Post at most Thunder Bay outlets.

The Friends of Chippewa Park still have a few horses available for adoption.

THUNDER BAY, ONTARIO  ~~~~~~   October 13, 2022 (LSNews)  The Canadian Pacific (CP) Holiday Train will return to the rails this season on its first cross-continent tour in three years, following virtual concerts in the pandemic years of 2020 and 2021. The train will again raise money, food and awareness for local food banks in communities along the CP network.

"I'm grateful to the CP team members who adapted during the COVID-19 pandemic to deliver two exceptional virtual Holiday Train shows and to all those who continued to donate while we kept community members safe," said Keith Creel, CP's President and Chief Executive Officer. "The Holiday Train is all about families and communities coming together to celebrate the season and help those in need. We are excited to be back out on the rails and in our communities, taking these two beautiful trains across our network and sharing the joy that comes with gathering in the spirit of giving."
