ENJOY A FAMILY DAY WEEKEND AT FORT WILLIAM HISTORICAL PARK

Family Day weekend – February 19-21, 2022 – from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily

THUNDER BAY, ONTARIO  ~~~~~  February 17, 2022  (LSNews)   – Enjoy a variety of fun, family-friendly outdoor activities at Fort William Historical Park (FWHP) this Family Day weekend – February 19-21, 2022 – from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily.

Visitors will enjoy skating, tubing, snowshoeing, and solar viewing. Additional activities include storytelling, tracks and furs presentation, wild rice popping demonstrations, and visiting with heritage characters at the Anishinaabe Encampment, Farm and Trades Square. Science North and the Thunder Bay Museum will also be offering activities and demonstrations throughout the weekend.

“We are delighted to be able to offer a variety of outdoor activities for people of all ages to enjoy this Family Day weekend,” said Patrick Morash, FWHP’s General Manager. “As the province continues to safely reopen, Fort William Historical Park’s engaging, family-friendly activities and events will delight our visitors and support the recovery of Northern Ontario’s tourism industry.”

Tickets are $5 per person and children five and under are free. All activities will take place outdoors and visitors must follow COVID-19 protocols, including mandatory masking and physical distancing.

Activities

Enjoy a variety of outdoor activities and demonstrations including:

  • Tubing on the Amphitheatre hill
  • Ice skating (please bring your own skates)
  • Snowshoeing
  • Visiting heritage characters at the Anishinaabe Encampment, Farm and Trades Square
  • Tracks & Furs presentation
  • Wild rice popping
  • Storytelling
  • Solar viewing
  • Activities and demonstrations by Science North (Sunday & Monday) and the Thunder Bay Museum (Saturday & Sunday)

All activities will take place outdoors. Please prepare for the weather and dress appropriately. Activity schedules may be altered or cancelled in the case of extreme weather conditions or changes to the COVID-19 pandemic situation.

Food & Beverage

  • Outside food and beverage is permitted. 
  • Snack stations will be available outside the Cantine and Dairy to purchase food and beverages.
  • Visitors must adhere to COVID-19 protocols when consuming food and beverages.

Food items include: Hot dogs, hamburgers and cheeseburgers, fries and poutine, mini donuts, pogos, and pizza pops

Beverage items include: Coffee, hot chocolate, pop, juice, and bottle water

What to Bring

  • Masks or facial coverings are required indoors and outdoors.
  • Weather appropriate clothing. This event takes place outdoors and in all-weather conditions.
  • Ice skates and/or sleds. A skate and sled check location will be available. Hockey sticks are not allowed.
  • Cash. There is no ATM available.
