Thunder Bay to host the first annual Central Canada Resources Expo
THUNDER BAY, ONTARIO ~~~~~ September 5, 2022 (LSNews) The Big Event CEN CAN Expo- one of Canada's largest and most unique trade shows is making its debut Sept. 14 and 15 at the Canadian Lakehead Exhibition Grounds after a two-year postponement due to Covid-19. "The CEN CAN Expo 2022 has already in its first year outgrown the indoor facilities of the CLE Grounds. The event serves as a tribute to the hard-working men and women in the mining, forestry, service and supply and education fields of Northwestern Ontario," said Dredhart.
CEN CAN Expo gets rolling with a Gala Dinner at the Valhalla Hotel & Conference Centre with over 400 guests on Tuesday September 13th, 6 p.m. with cocktails and media interviews. Dinner is served at 7:00 p.m. The dinner hosted by the Canadian Institute of Mining (CIM) Thunder Bay Branch and Canadian Trade-Ex the organizers of the Big Event will feature excellent cuisine from the kitchen of the Valhalla. Tickets are sold-out. Monies raised through this event go back to the community and mining in the form of school bursaries. This is a great evening of Networking for the industry. The Gala Dinner has raised $10,000.00 and the organizers couldn’t be happier with the results.
The grand opening of the Expo will take place on Wednesday Sept. 14, at 10:30 a.m. with welcoming remarks from guest dignitaries. Media will be invited to take part in the official opening of the event and then head over to the Northwestern Ontario Jackleg Drilling Competitions.
“This is an exciting time for the host city Thunder Bay, as they ready themselves for a large boom in the mining Industry. It’s great to see the mining and forestry industries are once again quickly becoming the backbone of Thunder Bay and Northwestern Ontario,” stated Dredhart.
Trade Show Hours:
On Wednesday Sept. 14th the CEN CAN Expo 2022 will open its doors at 9:00 a.m. and close at 5 p.m.
On Thursday Sept. 15th the hours of the event are 9:00 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Just some of the CEN CAN Expo 2022 Features:
There are over 300 indoor and outdoor displays onsite. Several companies are providing live demos within their booth spaces and are offering trade show specials. There will be Helicopter Tours provided by Wiskair Helicopters. Guests will sign up at the trade show and a shuttle van will take them to the Wiskair airport hangar and return to the trade show grounds. The tour is free to the trade show registrants thanks to the team at Wiskair. “It is important to show our guests of the event what Thunder Bay has to offer and there is no better view than from the air,” said Mark Wiskemann, President of Wiskair Helicopters.
The opening Ceremonies will take place Wednesday Sept. 14th at 10:30 am at the Jackleg Drilling Rocks near the main entrance of the trade show grounds. The main entrance will be off Northern Avenue.
On September 14th at 11:00 am, Manroc Development along with Impala Canada and Mining Life Magazine are hosting the Northwestern Ontario Jackleg Drilling Competitions. Miners are welcome to come and test their skills. Cash Prizes are awarded along with trophies. The first-place winners will get a sculptured Jackleg Driller, the sculptures are numbered and signed by Ernie Fauvelle the artist that produced them. There are men and women divisions and a dignitary challenge which will consist of media members and local officials. You won’t want to miss this event. Come on out and cheer your miners on.
There are two large Pavilions onsite and First Nations Partnerships will be featured throughout the trade show grounds. The participating companies will display successful partnerships of Indigenous communities and companies providing products and services to the mines and forest operations. Increasingly the future of mining success involves partnerships. Companies can learn firsthand experiences of the partnerships featured at the event.
The event will feature the latest in technology. Many exhibitors are bringing their newest lines of equipment. You will see the latest technology all in one place at one time during the event.
Northwestern Ontario’s mining and forestry companies will be on hand to discuss their activities and successes. The reputation this trade show is building extends internationally. This year you will see delegations of mining service and supply companies from all over the globe.
Both days of the event will feature the largest ever industrial trades Career Fair. Entrance on to the trade show grounds will be free to those looking for a career. All job seekers must register and have resumes in hand to get free passes. There will be over 50 companies accepting resumes onsite and there are over 20 displays on training, education and trades development programs. The official program for the event can be picked up at the registration tent and will feature the companies hiring. At the registration desk there will also be a big JOB BOARD sign listing the companies that are hiring with booth locations.
Thousands of mining workers will be needed over the next 10 years in Northern Ontario's mining industry and this activity is just part of what the CEN CAN Expo has to offer to help address those challenges.
The North Superior Workforce Planning Board along with the Northwest Connector are providing a morning conference on Hiring Challenges and Opportunities. The event is held at 9:00 am on Wednesday Sept. 14th at the Coliseum Building in the Cardinal Room and is geared to all companies that are having a hard time filling their job openings. Human Resource representatives will all be there taking in this exciting conference. Make sure you reserve your conference seat in advance as space is limited.
After a long day at the event on Thursday, the largest ever trade show social will take place at the Davinci Centre. The VIP Social is a by invitation event and fine Italian cuisine will be served up along with northern brewed spirits thanks to the Sleeping Giant Brewery and Rheault Distillery. Johnson’s Creek will be performing live are guaranteed to entertain throughout the whole evening. The Davinci Centre has offered up their entire building during the event so guests can mix, mingle and network amongst each other. This promises to be an enjoyable evening for all.
There are two conferences held on Thursday September 15th. When registering for those conferences you will notice they are being held at the Cineplex Silver City Theatre. These two conferences will host up to 200 delegates and there will be a light lunch provided and sponsored by Mine Connect.
The morning conference is called Projects in the Pipeline the next 5 years. This conference will feature both senior and junior mining companies. These companies will be talking about their operations and where they are going in the next 5 years. Hear from CEO and Management level representatives from Canada’s top producers and future leaders. Learn of opportunities that exist within the supply and service sector as these companies prepare for the expansion and development of world-class mining operations. Companies presenting include Evolution Mining, Kinross Gold, Alamos-Island Gold Mine, Avalon Advanced Materials, PureGold Mine, Agnico Eagle Mines and Equinox Gold’s Greenstone Mine.

The afternoon conference session will be held immediately following the morning session featuring the Ring of Fire Critical Minerals and the Central Role of Indigenous Communities. The Ring of Fire plays host to an abundance of opportunities for the supply of critical minerals required to meet todays and tomorrows Electric Vehicle demands. Speakers representing Government, Indigenous organizations, Indigenous communities and the mining industry will all be part of this very exciting and informative conference. The conference is hosted and moderated by Michael Fox, President of Indigenous Community Engagement (I.C.E.) and speakers will consist of Webequie First Nation, Chief Cornelius Wabasse, Special Keynote Speaker, Ontario’s new Mines Minister, George Pirie, the CEO of Noront Resources, Stephen Flewelling and Michael Fox and Qasim Saddique, President of Suslop Inc. will speak about the Northern Road Link.
