THE NEED
• Canada has 16 pediatric health care centres and 65% of Canadians live outside a city with a specialized pediatric healthcare facility, making families travel away from home necessary to heal their sick child.
• Without RMHC Programs, many parents of sick children are forced to go into debt to pay for accommodation and travel costs and, in some tragic cases, sleep in their cars to be near their children receiving treatment.
• RMHC Houses provide essential social infrastructure across Canada by providing families accommodation close to pediatric hospitals while their sick child receives care.
• RMHC Houses reduce barriers and improve access to equitable care for all Canadian families through low or no cost accommodation close to pediatric hospitals.
• The need for RMHC is significant. 65% of Canadian Families live in a community without specialized children care

THE IMPACT
• RMHC Programs specifically benefit Canadian families in rural and northern communities who must travel for specialized pediatric care
• RMHC supports Canadian families at their time of greatest need by providing accessible, family-centered accommodation. Many families would not be able to stay together otherwise.
• Across Canada, families stay 13 days on average. However, many families stay longer and the length of stay is increasing
• Many families return to RMHC. In fact, 1 in 5 have multiple stays per year. • Many Houses are observing a rising acuity of condition. There is a higher proportion of families with children in critical condition.
• RMHC Helps Ease the Financial Burden RMHC saves families across Canada $48.3 million annually, in out-of-pocket expenses like lodging, food, and other essentials.

RMHC-SWO is an integral part of family-centred medical care in London and Windsor, Ontario. Programs create and provide comfort, support and services for families of seriously ill children who require medical care.

Ronald McDonald House® London (RMH London) provides temporary lodging, parking, meals and social programs for families who travel to Children’s Hospital, London Health Sciences Centre for specialized pediatric care.

Ronald McDonald House® Windsor extends the mission of keeping families close as Canada’s first House-Within-a-Hospital located directly inside Windsor Regional Hospital MET Campus. F A M I LY R O O M P R O G R A M The Ronald McDonald Family Room® London program extends support to any caregiver with a seriously ill child in-hospital by providing a just like home space with amenities just down the hall from their child’s hospital room.
