Ontario Trillium Foundation grant $49,600 to supports Vox Popular

from the Government of Ontario and the Ontario Trillium Foundation

THUNDER BAY, ONTARIO  ~~~~~  October 3, 2022 (LSNews)  MPP Lise Vaugeois met with the team at Vox Popular Media Arts Festival to hear more about how a $49,600 Community Building Fund grant that it received in 2021 from the Government of Ontario and the Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF) helped it host successful events in 2022.

For an incredible 18 years, Vox Popular has been showcasing films by Northwestern Ontario Artists that teach us so much about our local histories and how they connect to larger world events. Congratulations to Vox Popular for your great work,” said Lise Vaugeois, MPP for Thunder Bay-Superior North. “I look forward to seeing the results of future projects now made possible by this grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation.”

MPP  Kevin Holland, Thunder Bay-Atikokan,  “I would like to express my congratulations to Vox Popular Media on their successful application to receive $49,600 from the province and Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF).”

Funds from the grant were also used to help with rental costs for its office space, as well as online software and licenses that enabled it to continue to remain connected with the community. At present, Vox Popular and the Definitely Superior Art Gallery is cohosting a regional art exhibition that will be available until October 8th at WHERE???. The exhibit, Yugen, features the works of 42 visual artists from Thunder Bay and the surrounding region. For more information, please visit www.voxpopular.ca

Last month, the group’s 18th Annual Vox Popular Media Arts Festival was held at the Definitely Superior Art Gallery on September 8th to the 11th. It featured 46 local, Canadian, and International films with 10+ visiting filmmakers holding Q&As. Select films were also available online for five consecutive days on www.researchtv.ca following the festival. The festival also featured performances from local musicians, poets, wrestlers, and dancers. Videos of the ‘Rebel 101’ workshop, performances, and Q&As with filmmakers will be posted online throughout the month of October on www.voxpopular.ca

Vox Popular is committed to promoting Northwestern Ontario Artists and making the arts accessible and inclusive to our community. Film submissions are now open for the festival returning September 7th to 10th, 2023.

The Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF) mission is to build healthy and vibrant communities across Ontario. As an agency of the Government of Ontario, and one of Canada’s leading granting foundations, last year, OTF invested nearly $209M into 2,042 community projects and partnerships, which included funding for the Government of Ontario’s Community Building Fund. Since 2020, OTF has supported Ontario’s economic recovery by helping non-profit organizations rebuild and recover from the impacts of COVID-19. Visit otf.ca to learn more.
