News from the Giant

At Waverley Park Boshcoff Summer Stage of Magnus Theatre

THUNDER BAY, ONTARIO  ~~~~~~  July 31, 2022 (LSNews)  Friends of the Finnish Labour Temple is pleased to announce that News from the Giant, as previously seen on Dougall Media in May 2022 following the TBT Newshour, will be screened on Wednesday, August 10th at 2:00 pm at the Boshcoff Summer Stage of Magnus Theatre. A discussion period will follow so that audience members can share stories and ask questions about the footage. For those that missed the opportunity to watch all eight vignettes on television or for anyone that would like to watch again, they can do so live in an outdoor setting! We will also be showing some additional footage, including a look at some of our colourized footage!

News from the Giant is comprised of eight “newsreel style” highlight reel vignettes spanning from 1954 to 1962. Each vignette showcases major events that took place at the Lakehead and surrounding areas that would have been aired during the early years of the Lakehead’s local television station. News from the Giant was created through the Reel Memories of the Lakehead project, a collaboration between the Thunder Bay Historical Museum and Friends of the Finnish Labour Temple to restore and digitize 16mm newsreel footage from 1954 to 1979. Reel Memories of the Lakehead is a public history project dedicated to the preservation and exposition of historical film footage of the Lakehead region.

This event will be free to attend and all ages welcome. We are hoping to engage with as many local residents as possible and that they will have the opportunity to share their “real” memories with us! For more information, please contact fflt1910@gmail.com
