EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS WEEK
Sault Ste Maire, Ontarioi
SAULT STE MARIE, ONTARIO ~~~~~ May 3, 2022 (LSNews) Everyone has a role to play in an emergency. Take action so that you, your family, and your community are prepared for emergencies.
May 1st –7th, is Emergency Preparedness Week in Ontario and this year’s theme, Emergency Preparedness: Be Ready for Anything encourages Canadians to take action to be prepared for a range of emergencies they could face in their region.
“By taking a few simple steps, you can become better prepared to face a range of emergencies anytime, anywhere. The challenges we have created help you be prepared to take on those difficult days. We all face moments of crisis in our lives from encountering a car accident to having to stay in our homes for 6 weeks. Now, more than ever, we all have a role to play in emergency preparedness and in emergency response,” says Lauren Perry, Community Emergency Management Coordinator.
To learn more about being prepared, visit the Emergency Preparedness Showcase on Saturday, May 7th, at The Mill Market from 9am - 2 p.m. This family friendly event is a great opportunity to meet with local emergency response teams, view demonstrations of emergency equipment and be entered into a draw to win a 72-hr emergency kits.
“Preparedness doesn’t have to be difficult, a great way to start is having a conversation with family or friends. If there was a flood or an extended power outage, how would you get in touch with one another? Do you have what you need in your home to be comfortable for a few days? Would you know where to find additional information if you needed to evacuate? Being Ready for Anything is about small steps and this week is a great time to get started, visit the Showcase where our experts will have tips and supplies to help you start your own emergency kit” adds Perry.
