Magnus Theatre Announces Revised Production Schedule

for Second Half of Mainstage Season

THUNDER BAY, ONTARIO  ~~~~~  January 19, 2022 (LSNews)  Provincial restrictions and the consideration of patron safety and comfort amid the recent surge in COVID-19 cases across the province have informed Magnus Theatre’s decision to set new dates for the remainder of this season’s productions

Originally slated to open on January 28th, Falen Johnson’s modern comedy-drama, SALT BABY, will now run from March 3rd to March 19th. SMARTY PANTS by Shelley Hoffman and Stephen Sparks will cap off the 2021-2022 Mainstage season, moving from its original March opening to May 5th and running through May 21st.

The season was originally planned to conclude with Dale Wasserman’s MAN OF LA MANCHA, but the theatre has made the difficult decision to cancel the large-scale Don Quixote-inspired musical due to ongoing public health concerns. MAN OF LA MANCHA will likely be rescheduled into the fall of 2022.

“The ongoing challenges of the pandemic have forced us to adjust our current season in order to ensure the safety of our patrons, our artists, and our staff,” notes Artistic Director Thom Currie.  “Our patrons have come to expect a wonderful and safe experience when they join us at the theatre during COVID-19. With the ongoing public health concerns, we have reworked the schedule to help ensure those conditions. I am confident that this revised season will thrill our audiences and reassure them that they are safe at Magnus Theatre.”

The 2021-2022 Season marks Magnus Theatre’s 50th Anniversary as the professional theatre of Northwestern Ontario.  The company successfully produced three plays in the fall of 2021 -  HOME: A BLUEGRASS CELEBRATION, LUNENBURG, and JACOB MARLEY’S CHRISTMAS CAROL. Attendances at all three productions were limited to 50% capacity, with many performances sold out.

The Mainstage performance season typically runs from September until May. Existing ticket holders for upcoming shows have been contacted directly with refund and credit options. Ticket sales for SALT BABY and SMARTY PANTS will be announced in February.
