THUNDER BAY, ONTARIO  -  January 10 , 2018,  (LSN)  Children’s Centre Foundation Thunder Bay, in partnership with Lakehead University, is inviting everyone to come out and participate in the 9th Annual Thunderwolves Indoor Marathon, taking place on Sunday, February 11th, 2018. Proceeds from the event remain local, supporting children’s mental health education and prevention initiatives through Children’s Centre Foundation.

“A typical Thunder Bay winter often includes temperatures of minus 40, leaving everyone feeling restless. The Indoor Marathon provides warmer temperatures to those anxious to get out and run,’ explains Kip Sigsworth, Lakehead University Running Coach. “We’re excited to be partnering with Children’s Centre Foundation once again, and our athletes always look forward to the excitement of the races and are proud of what it represents: supporting children’s mental health in our community.”

The Thunderwolves Indoor Marathon includes a race for everyone - from a full 211-lap marathon, to a free kids’ race for those under the age of 12. Other race categories include the half marathon, 10 km run/walk and the team relay. The team relay is by far the most entertaining, with teams often dressing in costume and loudly cheering on one another. The Relay Team race is open to anyone age 12 and older and is a perfect event for youth groups, sports teams, co-workers and families to join in the fun.

Children’s Centre Foundation Thunder Bay “This is a great opportunity to also remind the community about how important physical activity is, especially for our children and youth. Whatever way you look at it, the link between physical and mental health is undeniable. Either one will have effects on the other. Poor physical health can lead to poor mental health and vice-versa;” says John Friday, Vice President of Children’s Centre Thunder Bay and seasoned marathon runner. “Throughout the winter months when temperatures drop, many of us tend to hibernate. The Thunderwolves Indoor Marathon is a creative way to stay active and promotes regular activity regardless of the season”.
