THUNDER BAY, ONTARIO October 14, 2018  (LSN)  Lakehead Thunderwolves hockey team  defeated Western Mustangs Friday and lost to Windsor Lancers in front of 1939 fans at the Fort William Gardens on Saturday night

Led by the solid goaltending of Nic Renyard, the Lakehead Thunderwolves defeated the Western Mustangs 4-2 in front of 2,262 fans at the Fort William Gardens on Friday night.

BEMIDJI, MINNESOTA  October 7, 2018  (LSN)  The Lakehead Thunderwolves ran into a buzz-saw at Bemidji State and were felled 5-1 by the Beavers at the Sanford Center in Bemidji, Minnesota on Saturday night.

The Beavers found the back of the net just 51 seconds after the opening face-off and didn’t look back. Owen Sillinger was on the doorstep to tip in a pass past Wolves’ goalie Nic Renyard.

THUNDER BAY, ONTAIRO  September 29, 2018  (LSN)  The Lakehead Thunderwolves put on a dominating performance for the 2,026 fans at the Fort William Gardens on Saturday night, outshooting Nipissing 73-27 enroute to a 6-1 victory over the Lakers.

After a scoreless first period in which the Wolves fired 28 shots on Lakers’ goalie Taylor Joseph, Daniel McKitrick scored two goals just 11 seconds apart early in the second to stake Lakehead to a 2-0 lead.

In 2018, Duluth Running Co. is throwing a launch party for four different parks around the area: Chester, Lester, Hartley, and the Lakewalk. Each launch party will include the release of a limited production shirt collaborated on by Duluth Running Co. and DLH Clothing, alongside the release of a limited production specialty “Park” brew by Hoops Brewing.

THUNDER BAY, Ont. – The Superior International Junior Hockey League announced Monday that Thunder Bay North Stars forward Keighan Gerrie has been named its initial Play It Again Sports Player of the Week for the 2018-19 campaign.

In two road contests over the weekend the 17-year-old Thunder Bay product registered a SIJHL-best six points helping the North Stars go 1-0-1 overall.

THUNDER BAY, ONTARIO  - September 223 2018  (LSN) The Lakehead Thunderwolves rallied from two goals down in the third period and edged the Lethbridge Pronghorns 6-5 in an overtime shootout in front of a raucous crowd of 3,244 at the Fort William Gardens on Saturday night.

The come-from-behind victory gave Lakehead its first season-opening series sweep since 2010.

THUNDER BAY, ONTARIO  - September 22, 2018  (LSN) The Lakehead Thunderwolves opened the season with a flurry of offense in the early going and held on to defeat the Lethbridge Pronghorns 5-4 before a crowd of 2,110 at the Fort William Gardens on Friday night.

Brennen Dubchak lit the fire just 1:22 into the game when he broke in alone on Pronghorns’ netminder Garrett Hughson and beat him on the glove side, with Joe Leonidas getting the assist.

RED DEER, ALBERTA   - September 4, 2018  (LSN)  Over 100 inspiring Canadians were named today as torchbearers in the  national MNP Canada Games Torch Relay. During a press conference this afternoon, the 2019  Canada Winter Games Host Society unveiled the first round of torchbearer names.  

Torch relays are hosted in 26 communities, with additional torchbearers being announced in the  coming month.

CALGARY, Alta. –  September 2, 2018   (LSN)  The Canadian Junior Hockey League (CJHL) announced Saturday its Top 20 preseason rankings for the upcoming 2018-19 season.

Topping the preseason tabulations, which were compiled by a non-affiliated scouting agency, are the Penticton Vees (BCHL).

Coming in at No. 2 were the 2019 Canadian National Jr. A Championship-host Brooks Bandits (AJHL) while Wellington Dukes (OJHL) were slotted third in the 133-team CJHL.

When you haul a race car all over North America, win hundreds of Feature races, 30 season championships over 50 years, you get inducted into several Halls of Fame. Tom was honored this past weekend, August 11with his induction into Rice Lake (WI) Speedways Hall of Fame. Tom was a regular in the Late Model class at Rice Lake Speedway in the late 60’s, winning 14 features 1968-2002 and, the season points twice.

After careful consideration and thoughtful discussion, the Board of Directors and membership voted unanimously for the change at the club's Annual General Meeting held on August 7th.

Each Team Staal player will play in the road hockey game of a lifetime in the Fountain Tire Summer Classic as part of the Opening Day activities of the Staal Foundation Open, presented by Tbaytel. Fans are invited to come and cheer on our Team Staal players. The game will feature the Staals, along with other past and present NHLers along with a roster of celebrities, Mackenzie Tour – PGA TOUR Canada  players, and TSN personalities.

For the third year in a row, kids across Northwestern Ontario stepped forward to raise money for the Northern Cancer Fund for a chance to play on Team Staal 2018 in the Fountain Tire Summer Classic – an epic road hockey game that will take place at the Staal Foundation Open

THUNDER BAY, ONTARIO  - June 11, 2018  (LSN)  Lakehead University and the Thunderwolves hockey team are pleased to announce that forward Jordan King of Corner Brook, Newfoundland has committed to the program.

The 6”2”, 190-pound winger played his first year of junior with the Halifax Mooseheads of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League.  King spent the next three years with the Amherst Ramblers of the Maritime Hockey League and led his team in scoring in each of the past two seasons, tallying 80 points in 2016-17 and 78 points in 2017-18.  He also served as the Ramblers’ captain in his final campaign.

The Chill, who last won the PDL National Champions in 2008, are coming off a sweep of WSA Winnipeg last weekend with two clean sheets for Campbell University graduate Matthew Mozynski.

The Menace who are in their 25th season in the league, rolled over their opponents in four consecutive wins to start the season and have outscored the opposition by 11-2.
