GRAND PORTAGE, Minnesota – May 4, 2018 (LSN) U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), Office of Field Operations held two Nexus enrollment workshops in the Pembina Area Port over the weekend. The NEXUS Enrollment events were in Dunseith, North Dakota, and Grand Portage, Minnesota. During these enrollment events, CBP and Canada Border Services Agency conducted interviews for conditionally approved Nexus applicants.
NEXUS enrollment workshops were held in Grand Portage on April 27-29 and Dunseith April 27-28. Grand Portage planned for a two-day workshop but, due to high demand, a third day was added. Grand Portage interviewed 102 applicants over the weekend. The Dunseith event had 52 applicants interviewed over the weekend.
Nexus is a voluntary expedited clearance initiative for pre-approved low-risk international travelers. The Nexus program will allow pre-screened travelers expedited processing when entering the United States and Canada. Program members use dedicated processing lanes at designated northern border ports of entry, Nexus kiosks when entering Canada by air and Global Entry kiosks when entering the United States via Canadian preclearance airports. Nexus members also receive expedited processing at marine reporting locations.
“CBP is dedicated to improving the efficiency with which we process travelers,” said Dunseith Port Director Jason McFadden. “Being able to offer more individuals access to NEXUS and other trusted traveler programs is an important part of that process. Dunseith was pleased to be able to offer NEXUS enrollment access to people in the local area.”
Nexus enrollment also provides access to the TSA Pre✓™ initiative, which offers expedited screening through domestic airport security checkpoints. Benefits of TSA Pre✓™ include being permitted to leave shoes, light outerwear and belts on, and not having to remove laptops from carrying cases.
