THUNDER BAY, ONTARIO - October 12, 2018  (LSN)  A search warrant was executed at dwelling in the 200 block of Algoma Street around 6:00 p.m. on October 11, 2018 that resulted in arrests and seizures.

As a result of an ongoing investigation, members of the TBPS Intelligence Unit entered the dwelling to execute the search warrant on the apartment and arrested the three occupants. During the search cocaine and fentanyl valued at over $25,000 were located and seized along with approximately $3,000 in cash.

OPP were assisted by officers from the Thunder Bay Police Service, Anishinabek Police Service and Nishnawbe-Aski Police Service.

THUNDER BAY, ONTARIO - September 8, 2018  (LSN)   Members of the TBPS Intelligence Unit arrested a male yesterday afternoon on South May Street for the possession of a controlled substance. Upon the male's arrest officers located what they believe to be 60 grams of fentanyl, 88 capsules of hydromorphone and 55 grams of marihuana.

Police also seized $1,800 in currency. A subsequent search warrant resulted in the seizure of 2 pounds of marihuana and $12,500 in currency. The value of the drugs seized is approximately $17,600.

Police have identified 31-year-old Amelia Corrie Sainnawap as the person found deceased on August 22, 2018 in the 100 block of Cumming Street.

Her family has been notified of her death. The Thunder Bay Police Service is investigating this incident as a homicide.

Police presence will remain high in the area as the investigation is active and ongoing.

The merchandise consisted of 60,180 mermaid and fashion dolls.

SIOUX LOOKOUT, ONTARIO - June 16, 2018 (LSN)   Members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Sioux Lookout Crime Unit have been investigating allegations of historical sexual abuse in Sioux Lookout between the years of 1989-1991. Seven adult males have come forward with allegations of sexual assault that occurred when they were under 16 years of age.

As a result of this investigation, Jack WICKSEY (65) of Los Fresno, Texas has been charged with nine (9) counts of Sexual Assault on a person under 16 years of age contrary to section 271 of the Criminal Code and nine (9) counts of Sexual Exploitation contrary to section 153(1)(a) of the Criminal Code.

INTERNATIONAL FALLS, MINNESOTA  —June 12, 2018  (LSN)  U.S. Border Patrol agents assigned to the International Falls Station served a seizure warrant and detained four people on Rainy Lake on June 6. Agents seized the vessel, charging one person with 19 USC 1436(b), and 19 USC 1433 (failure to report arrival into the United States) which could result in a $5000 fine. 

 

Agents conducting marine operations on Rainy Lake observed a vessel traveling south on Rainy Lake that matched the description and registration of a signed U.S. District Court seizure warrant. Upon positive identification of the vessel, agents stopped the boat containing four individuals and served a warrant of seizure to the operator.

COOK COUNTY, MINNESOTA  -  June 11, 2018  (LSN) At approximately 9:15 am, a Cook County Sheriff’s Office Deputy attempted to pull a vehicle over for a speed violation east of Schroeder Minnesota around the Temperance River area. The vehicle pulled onto the shoulder and slowed. The vehicle continued to drive forward at a very low rate of speed. At approximately 9:17 am, as the vehicle was coming to a stop, the driver displayed a handgun and turned the weapon on himself. As the Deputy was coming to a stop, he witnessed the driver’s side window of the dark green Jeep shatter and the driver slump over in the vehicle. On approach of the vehicle, the 43-year-old male driver from Winsted, Minnesota, was found deceased from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.

GRAND PORTAGE, Minnesota – May 4, 2018  (LSN)   U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), Office of Field Operations held two Nexus enrollment workshops in the Pembina Area Port over the weekend.  The NEXUS Enrollment events were in Dunseith, North Dakota, and Grand Portage, Minnesota.  During these enrollment events, CBP and Canada Border Services Agency conducted interviews for conditionally approved Nexus applicants. 

 

NEXUS enrollment workshops were held in Grand Portage on April 27-29 and Dunseith April 27-28.  Grand Portage planned for a two-day workshop but, due to high demand, a third day was added.

An 82 year old male was out walking when he was approached at approximately 11:00 a.m. by two males and assaulted. The suspects fled the area and neighbours came out to assist the male and contact police. The male was taken to hospital by ambulance for medical attention.

April 16, 2018 – On Saturday, April 28, the Cook County Sheriff’s Office, in partnership with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), will be hosting an unwanted prescription drug round-up at two locations in the County.  

 

“This is an opportunity for the public to prevent pill abuse and theft by ridding their homes of potentially dangerous expired, unused or unwanted prescription drugs,” said Chief Deputy Will Sandstrom. “This initiative addresses a vital public safety and public health issue. Medicines that sit in home cabinets are highly susceptible to diversion, misuse, and abuse. Rates of prescription drug abuse in the U.S. are alarmingly high, as are the number of accidental poisonings and overdoses due to these drugs.”

WASHINGTON, DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA  April 1, 2018  (LSN) Construction of the border wall is underway, as several projects begin to take shape along the Southwest border. One project will begin within days, according to Ronald Vitiello, U.S. Customs and Border Protection’s acting deputy commissioner.

“We’re on track to replace 20 miles of primary vehicle barrier in Santa Teresa, New Mexico,” he told reporters during a Friday afternoon news conference in Washington, D.C. “Ground breaking is scheduled for early April.”

The projects span the Southwest border from San Diego to the Rio Grande Valley Sector in Texas.

THUNDER BAY, ONTAIRO  -  March 30, 2018  (LSN)  On the 29th of March, 2018 at approximately 11:15 am officers with the Guns and Gangs unit executed a Controlled Drugs and Substances Act Search Warrant at a multi-residential unit located on South Cumberland Street. 

 Monroe Robert Blackwood,  a 20 year old male,  and  Denny Habton  21 year old female from Toronto were arrested without incident. 

A loaded semi- automatic handgun and a sawed off shotgun with ammunition were seized. 
Officers also discovered $7000.00 in cash as well as $4000.00 worth of cocaine and crack cocaine.

On March 24, 2018, agents observed five snowmobiles travel south from Canada and illegally enter the United States on Rainy Lake near Dryweed Island. Agents responded to investigate and encountered seven individuals at a local lodge.

GRAND PORTAGE, Minnesota – February 15, 2018  (LSN)  U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), Office of Field Operations is holding a Nexus enrollment workshop in Grand Portage on April 27 and 28. During this enrollment event, CBP and Canada Border Services Agency will conduct interviews for conditionally approved Nexus applicants.

Nexus is a voluntary expedited clearance initiative for pre-approved low-risk international travelers. The Nexus program will allow pre-screened travelers expedited processing when entering the United States and Canada. Program members use dedicated processing lanes at designated northern border ports of entry, Nexus kiosks when entering Canada by air and Global Entry kiosks when entering the United States via Canadian Preclearance airports. Nexus members also receive expedited processing at marine reporting locations.

WARROAD, MINNESOTA  - October 10, 2017   (LSN)  U.S. Customs and Border Protection’s Office of Field Operations honored Immigration Inspectors Laurence E. Doten and Lawrence C. Jones who were killed in the line of duty 87 years ago on Aug. 24, 1930. Laurence E. Doten and Lawrence C. Jones were shot and killed as they traveled on the Canadian National train between Fort Frances, Ontario, and Warroad, Minnesota, while clearing passengers entering the United States.
