SUPERIOR, WISCONSIN - November 19, 2018 (LSN) The University of Wisconsin-Superior Music Department presents its 21st annual Season of Song concerts on Sunday, December 2, at 4 p.m. and Tuesday, December 4, at 7:30 p.m. at Cathedral of Christ the King in Superior.
Featuring the newly installed organ at the cathedral, the Season of Song concerts under the direction of UW-Superior assistant professor of choral activities Michael Fuchs, will include familiar carols, audience participation, and choral and orchestral music.
“I feel honored and privileged to be involved in Season of Song,” said Fuchs. “It is humbling to be responsible for such an important tradition that, for many people in the Twin Ports, marks the beginning of the holiday season.”
Titled “How Brightly Shines the Star,” Season of Song will feature audience carols and holiday favorites such as “O Holy Night,” performed by Vicki Fingalson, associate professor of voice and director of opera workshop at UW-Superior. The newly installed organ, played by UW-Superior senior lecturer Thomas Hamilton, will be featured in Jonathan Dove’s choral work “Seek Him That Maketh the Seven Stars.” The UWS choruses will perform works by J.S. Bach, Michael Praetorius, Ivo Antognini, Guillaume Dufay, and Sergei Rachmaninoff, with the UW-Superior Orchestra performing movements from Arcangelo Corelli’s Christmas Concerto.
“The concert combines the wonderful visual and acoustical elements of the Cathedral of Christ the King with beautiful music,” said Fuchs. “My goal is to provide a meaningful concert experience that engages the audience and enriches their lives.”
Tickets are $10 and can be purchased at the door. Cathedral of Christ the King is located at 1111 Belknap St., in Superior.
